As we built a sound installation

Heiko Schätzle and Andrea Züllig

The collaboration between the Künstlerkollektiv bittelangsam and Daniel Gerngross (D-BSSE), which began in spring 2018 as part of the Art of Molecules, is renewed in this installation.

The sounds associated with work processes serve as a starting point for the artistic examination of everyday life in the laboratory. Sound is understood as a material that refers to its place of origin and at the same time offers the possibility to create its own space in other contexts. The sound that can be heard here refers to the studio of the two artists while they created the installation. It’s an art piece that was conceived for the site of their repository, but is not present. Instead, it is reduced to the audible observation of the artistic process in the studio, which attributes its own significance to the sound material. Following the notion of musique concrète, the sound finds its way back into the laboratory building and joins the components of the repository.
