NCCR MSE offers up to 3 months of fully-paid parental leave for parents that want to take a break to take care and raise their newborn (or adopted) children (up to max. 1 year old). The parental leave is available to both mothers and fathers that are Fellows paid directly by NCCR MSE.
The parental leave needs to be agreed and approved by the Project Leader and by the institution where the parent is working. For mothers of newborns, the paid leave is added on top of the statutory maternity leave (usually 14 - 16 weeks).
PhD students taking the parental leave are eligible for an extension of the mandated SNSF limit of 4 years for PhD studies.
Generally, Fellows need to have a valid contract and be on unpaid leave from their home institution during their parental leave.
