Rotating centrifuges and whirring magnetic stirrers make the DNA sound. In collaboration with Daniel Gerngross from the D-BSSE (NCCR), Andrea Züllig (HGK FHNW) and Heiko Schätzle (ZHdK) question the laboratory routine of synthetic biology in their sound installation «Treulose Experimente».
Laboratory equipment and machine sounds are coupled to optical test methods, which continuously shape and change the listening experience. For sound reproduction, resonance bodies made of laboratory materials are used and a sensory feedback of the sounds in the materiality of the biomolecular laboratory is created. An aesthetic framework arises in which artistic and scientific work processes create dependencies. An open space that invites to endure irritation and mutual incomprehension.
