Flexibly apply Knowledge

Maëlle Torné

After two days in the molecular engineering lab of the NCCR, where I looked, thought, exchanged, draw, listened, asked, understood, or not.

Arises the wish to ally art and science, arises the question: What can bring the alliance of art and science?

-For the understanding of a specific theme- For myself and for the viewers of the answer of this question.

To answer this, I think of time and 8 months. I think of my background in biology, my background in ethnology, my practice in art.

I take a scientific research, found in the lab I visited. With help, I gather material around it : documentation, drawings, explanations, articles, testimonies, sounds, names. I sort and analyze this material depending on aesthetics and on the objective of the research, as I understand it. I ally it and formulate it to be presentable, understandable, poetic.

The project is a performance, -understood as an art piece for a spectator- with ethnologic steps for gathering the material, using artistic tools, having a scientific research from the NCCR as the theme explored.
